If you have an extra budget and extra space at your home, building a home gym is a good investment for your health. Having a gym at home does not mean that you should have a large space, it can be small or medium size, whatever empty space you got at home. It can even be a garage that turns into a home gym. Here are reasons why you should have a home gym.
- An Introvert Happy Place
If you are an introvert and like to be alone but also want to get a fit body, a home gym is perfect for you. Nobody is going to bother you, ask you things while lifting, making small talks, awkward stares from strangers. Just a peaceful workout. There is no need to wait for your turn using to use dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, etc. You will have it all for yourself and access it whenever you want. You are free to use it for as long as you like.
2. Eliminate Obstacles And Excuses
Having a home gym will prevent you from finding excuses, not to work out. As we know it takes dedicated time to workout at the commercial gym, for with all the traffic jams that happen daily, it took me at least 30 minutes to go to the gym. Back and forth will take an hour. The exercise itself can take between 1,5-2 hours long. So, I need to provide at least 3 hours a day four times a week to work out at the gym. To be honest with my life phase, I don’t have that much time. The less obstacle to get to the workout place, the better it will be. Thus, by doing workouts at home I don’t have any justifications to not exercise since it takes zero time to get to the “gym”. It saves more time than I used to waste in a traffic jam.
3. Save Money
There is no need to pay for a gym membership. The weird thing I do in the past was, I will pay for a gym membership, but then I rarely go there. I thought by paying for a gym membership, it will force me to exercise. But it didn’t. additionally, most commercial gym in my area usually is inside a mall and shopping places. This often makes me want to have coffee or snacking after a gym session, so many temptations to spend money.
4. Time Flexibility
You can work out whenever you want, whether it is 4 am in the morning or 11 pm at night, your home gym is open 24 hours. You have the time flexibility to manage your workout schedule that fits your lifestyle.
5. More Hygienic
Well, we are still in a pandemic situation. Having a home gym is more hygienic and clean compare to a public gym. Since only you who will use it. Of course, you must keep your home gym clean and tidy all the time.
6. Convenient
In order to make a good habit of exercising sustainable, it needs to be as easy to access and convenient to do. So, your brain does not view exercise as a hard task, then seamlessly becomes the thing you can enjoy and make it a lifestyle.
7. Motivate Your Family To Get Fit
A home gym can also be a place for you to bond with your family, work out together, and lose weight together perhaps. You can encourage your spouse to live an active lifestyle since the gym is available 24 hours at home.
It has been a long-time dream for me to have my own space where I can enjoy doing exercise peacefully. It is been 2 years since I start strength training at home with a small and cramped space, squeeze between furniture. However, that does not decrease my motivation. Hopefully, I can have a more decent space to create my own home gym.
